The Portland Metro Concert Band is excited to lead a consortium of a new work for concert band by Washington Composer, Megan Vinther.


Megan Vinther is a Seattle area musician, composer, and music educator who is passionate about creating welcoming communities through music. She has taught band, orchestra, and guitar in secondary public schools since 2003. Megan is currently the director of instrumental music at Everett High School in Everett, Washington, where she directs jazz band, two concert bands, string orchestra, and percussion ensemble. Megan also conducts the Edmonds Concert Band at Edmonds College. Her jazz bands, concert bands, and orchestras have consistently earned top marks at regional festivals, and she is regularly asked to act as a clinician and adjudicator for jazz and concert band festivals. 
Career teaching highlights include participating in the 2015 Swing Central competition in Savannah, GA, presenting at the WMEA Conference in 2020 on “The Art of Being a Female Band Director,” and collaborating with the Seattle JazzED Girls Ellington Project for the premiere of her jazz suite “Salish” in 2023.

What’s Going On Here:
Brand new piece for concert band! Under Pines and Stars will be a grade 3 piece difficulty that is 4-6 minutes long.

Can Anybody Join?
All are welcome! Even if you don’t conduct a band, you can always surprise someone who does by joining in their name.

How Much Is It?
Level 1 ($200)
Level 2 ($100) – For Title 1 Institutions and Organizations with limited funding.

In the spirit of equity, each level will receive the same thing:
1. Conductor and Ensemble name printed in score.
2. A digital/PDF version of score and parts.
3. Performance exclusivity from March 2026 – March 2027

Who Gets To Premier The Piece?
The Portland Metro Concert Band will give the world premier performance of the work on March 22, 2026. After that date, all consortium members will be free to give their own performances.

How Long Do I Have To Join?
The deadline to join is January 9th, 2026. All payments must be received by January 9th, 2026.
Score and parts will be emailed on January 12th.
