WELCOME TO Portland Metro Concert Band
The Portland Metro Concert Band is a 55-member adult band made up of musicians who enjoy playing and performing wind band literature. Participants range from college students to adult amateurs and retired professionals. They represent many fields of endeavor, including business, education, finance, medicine and nonprofit. All the musicians, including the directors, are volunteers.
The band rehearses weekly from fall through spring, and performs formal concerts at the Horner Performing Arts Center at David Douglas High School, area churches, and local community venues. They also participate in the annual Northwest Adult Band Festival in March when it is active.

History
In 1992, members of the big band at the Milwaukie Elks Lodge, having amassed a large collection of concert band music, formed the Elks Concert Band. Several years later the band changed its name to the Portland Metro Concert Band to better reflect its membership and mission.
The group’s philosophy, taken from its 2013 Bylaws, follows: The Portland Metro Concert Band is committed to community service through giving public performances to the community and providing rehearsal and performance opportunities for local musicians. The band values the community in which it serves, providing both entertainment and enlightenment through quality musical performances and the rendition of great musical literature. The band believes in supporting longtime musicians, as well as in nurturing the re-identification and restoration of dormant musical talents.

Attending the Portland Metro Concert Band’s spring concert was a delightful experience. The band played a range of pieces, from classical to contemporary. Their rendition of Gershwin’s ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ was truly moving, and the volunteer musicians bring an inspiring level of passion to their performances.
I’ve been a fan of PMCB for years, and their dedication to community service through music is outstanding. They provide great performances, and I love how they mix in traditional band literature with some more modern selections. I always look forward to their annual Northwest Adult Band Festival performance.
The Portland Metro Concert Band is a gem in the community. I particularly enjoyed their winter concert at the Horner Performing Arts Center. The band’s ability to blend various instruments and offer a balanced, rich sound is a testament to the talent of its members and directors.
