Welcome to the Portland Metro Concert Band Web Page.

The Portland Metro Concert Band is a 55-member adult band made up of musicians who enjoy playing and performing wind band literature. Participants range from college students to adult amateurs and retired professionals. They represent many fields of endeavor, including medicine, education, business, and finance. All the musicians, including the directors, are volunteers.

The band rehearses weekly for ten months of the year and performs formal concerts at the Horner Performing Arts Center at David Douglas High School, areas churches, and participates in the annual Oregon Adult Band Festival.

In 1992, members of the Big Band at the Milwaukie Elks Lodge, having amassed a collection of concert band music, formed the Elks Concert Band. The founding co-directors were
Jay Burchak and Fev Pratt. Several years later the band changed its name to the Portland Metro Concert Band to better reflect its membership and mission.

Jack Mahoney replaced Mr. Pratt in the co-director’s spot in 2009 until his retirement in 2014. Dr. Roger Nickerson was chosen to succeed him. In 2016 Mr. Burchak retired from directing, and band was under the sole leadership of Dr. Roger Nickerson until his retirement from the band in June 2017.

With the beginning of the new rehearsal season in September 2017, the band welcomed
Glenn Taylor as its new Musical Director, and Eben Fernando Heldreth as its Assistant Musical Director. With Mr. Heldreth's move to a school district in Washington State, Curt Cassingham moved into the Assistant Musical Director role. All of the bandleaders have brought with them a wealth of musical experiences and have contributed to the growth of the ensemble.

Mr. Taylor's conducting background began in high school and continued through his educational years at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he led the Corps od Cadets Concert Band. He is Conductor Emeritus of the Encore Brass, retiring after 40 years with them, and the bandleader of the Dixie Cups.

Mr. Cassingham is a long time member of the band's flute section, has extensive experience in music recording and working with choral groups, and also serves as Assistant Conductor with the East County Community Orchestra.

We welcome your support. Even though the Portland Metro Concert Band is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and composed of volunteers, it still incurs expenses. All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax deductible. You may mail your tax deductible donation to PMCB, c/o R.W. Rees, President, at 17243 NE Wasco Street, Portland, OR 97230.

We look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
